Hintergrund
Die laienverständliche Vermittlung von symptombezogener Information spielt eine wichtige Rolle beim Krankheitsmanagement. Die Informationstherapie zielt darauf ab, Patienten über Mechanismen und Zusammenhänge von Aspekten der Gesundheitserhaltung bzw. Krankheitsentstehung zu informieren, so dass sie durch ein tiefgreifendes Verständnis informierte Entscheidungen treffen können. Entsprechend wird z.B. die Bildgebung in der Medizin nicht nur zur Diagnostik eingesetzt (z.B. intrauterine Entwicklung des Fötus), sondern sie fördert gleichzeitig das menschliche Verständnis für komplexe Vorgänge. Der didaktische Mehrwert von Bildern wird bekräftigt durch die sprichwörtliche Metapher: «Ein Bild sagt mehr als tausend Worte».
Anhaltende Beschwerden im orofazialen Bereich (Mund- und Gesicht) sind meist auf molekulare Veränderungen im Kaumuskel- und Nervengewebe zurückzuführen, welche mit bildgebenden Verfahren nicht darstellbar sind. Darüber hinaus beeinflussen psychosoziale Stressoren i.d.R. die Beschwerdesymptomatik und umgekehrt wirken sich Schmerzen negativ auf die Psyche aus. Im Klinikalltag stützt sich die Informationsvermittlung bzgl. biologischer Mechanismen und bio-psychosozialer Wechselwirkungen derzeit auf sprachliche Erläuterungen und Handskizzen.
Projektziele
Ziele dieses Projekts sind die Entwicklung und Implementierung eines interaktiven, digitalen Werkzeugs zur Unterstützung der patientenzentrierten Informationstherapie (DigiVisIn). DigiVisIn visualisiert Expertenwissen mittels biologischer Illustrationen und graphischer Modellen, welche interaktiv auf die individuelle Situation anpassbar sind. Der Aufbau ist modular strukturiert, so dass unterschiedliche Aspekte bedarfsabhängig einsetzbar sind. Dank des didaktischen Fokus auf Laienverständlichkeit werden auch Fachpersonen mit wenig Expertise (diverse medizinische und paramedizinische Disziplinen) befähigt, die notwendige Information auf qualitativ hohem Niveau zu vermitteln. Insbesondere sollen damit auch Lernende bei der laienverständlichen Vermittlung komplexer Zusammenhänge unterstützt werden. Nach Genehmigung durch die Ethikkommission wird die Anwendung im klinischen Kontext getestet werden.
Der DSI-Antrag dient der «Brückenfinanzierung» bis zur Einreichung eines Innosuisse-Antrags.

Background
Communication of symptom-related information in nonprofessional terms plays an important role in disease management. The aim of information therapy is to inform patients about aspects of health maintenance and illness development so that they can make informed decisions based on a profound understanding. Imaging in medicine, for example, is not only used for diagnostics (e.g. intrauterine development of the fetus), but also to promote human understanding of complex processes. The didactic value of images is illustrated by the proverb: "A picture tells more than a thousand words".
Persistent complaints in the orofacial area (mouth and face) are mostly due to molecular changes in muscles and nerves, which cannot be visualized by imaging methods. In addition, psychosocial stressors commonly influence somatic symptom perception and vice versa, bodily symptoms negatively impact on psychological well-being. In current clinical practice, verbal explanations and hand-drawn sketches provide information regarding biological mechanisms and bio-psychosocial interactions.
Project aims
The objectives of this project are the development and implementation of an interactive, digital tool to support patient-centered information therapy (DigiVisIn). DigiVisIn visualizes expert knowledge by means of biological illustrations and graphical models, which are adaptable to the individual needs for information therapy. The structure is modular so that different aspects are presentable based on requirements. Due to the didactic focus on comprehension by layperson, also specialists from various medical and paramedical disciplines with little expertise in the area of orofacial problems are able to convey the necessary information at a high quality level. In particular, the projects aim at empowering students in conveying complex biopsychosocial relationships in a way that they are easily understandable for laypersons. Once approved by the ethics committee, the application will be tested in a clinical context.
The DSI application serves as financial bridge for the preparation of an Innosuisse application.
