Webinar presented by Benjamin Eugster, ZHAW, on April 25, 2019

Open book exams actively encourage both the use of specific course material and individual study notes. Despite this permissive approach, most open book exams try to prevent collaboration between students during exams. In order to balance this combination of permissive and restrictive approaches, specific organisational and technological settings have to be chosen for digital exams. The core functionalities of the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) allow for a flexible definition of permitted and prohibited resources that are necessary for such exam settings.

The webinar will demonstrate how conducting digital exams with SEB can facilitate the use of digital course material and notes during open book exams. With new features of SEB students have the possibility to write an exam on their LMS while they are at the same time given access to specific external resources (e.g. e-books) and/or an external file hosting service (e.g. SWITCHdrive) containing relevant course material and their individual notes.
