Stian will present work-in-progress from the project FROG. FROG is a platform to Fabricate and Run Orchestration Graphs, i.e. graphs that describe rich pedagogical scenarios. It is an open source project and introduces a concept of pluggable activity types (like video player, quiz, brainstorming or programming exercises), which can be configured by the teacher designer and connected in a learning graph. Data from one activity is transformed and reusable in others (ideas from a brainstorm flowing into a concept map tool). Pluggable “operators” can transform data, intelligently group students, etc. through the use of algorithms and machine learning.
While the teacher runs the class, intelligent visualisations provide predictions based upon analysis of students actions with the activities. FROG might be used in small classrooms, large lectures (we have conducted experiments with 350 students in a lecture theatre), or MOOCs. This talk will present examples of learning designs from EPFL, University of Lausanne, University of Minnesota and other institutions.
