Live channels (beta)

Live channel allows you to broadcast a live stream on your channel for anyone to watch.

Get started

Live streaming requires broadcast software such as OBS Studio, Xsplit Broadcaster, or Streamlabs Desktop.

Click the “Edit channel” button. Enable “Live channel” under “Channel settings” and save your changes. Open the top-right menu on the channel page and select “Live channel”.

Click the menu on the “Live channel” page and select “Broadcast setup” to reveal the server URL and stream key you need to enter into the settings of your broadcast software.

OBS Studio

In the OBS Studio “Stream” settings panel, choose “Custom…” from the “Service” dropdown. Then enter the server URL and the stream key from the “Broadcast setup” dialog.

Xsplit Broadcaster

In the Xsplit Broadcaster main window, open the “Broadcast” menu. Select “Set up a new output” and choose the “Custom RTMP” item. Then enter the server URL in the “RTMP URL” field and the stream key in the “Stream Key” field.

Streamlabs Desktop

In the Streamlabs Desktop “Stream” settings panel, choose “Custom Streaming Server” from the “Stream Type” dropdown. Then enter the server URL and the stream key from the “Broadcast setup” dialog.

Beta limitation

Please note that live channels are currently in beta and subject to change.

  • For now, use live channels only for public streams. Even though the “Live channel” page follows the channel permissions, the stream might be viewed by anyone when its URL has been shared.
  • Live streams are not yet stored. Make sure to record your live stream locally if you want to upload it to Switch Tube for your viewers to watch later.
